The Rhode Island Department of Health, Office of State Medical Examiners (OSME) is a 24/7 operation accredited by the National Association of Medical Examiners and led by the Chief Medical Examiner. Staff include 3 full-time board-certified forensic pathologists, 8 scene investigators who work interchangeably in the field and in the autopsy room, 2 case managers, 2 clerical staff and an administrator. An ISO-17025 accredited forensic toxicology laboratory, and other state laboratories are co-located in the same building. The OSME also benefits from existing contracts for cardiac, anthropological and odontology consults, as well as radiology and livery services.
The Medical Examiners serve as faculty at the Department of Pathology of the Warren Alpert Medical School at Brown University. Additional academic collaboration opportunities with the Department of Pathology and the Lifespan Hospital System are available for the Chief Medical Examiner.
Experience required: Minimum of 5 years' experience in the field of Forensic Pathology, including 3 years of management experience. Board Certification in the field of Anatomic and Forensic Pathology and able to obtain a Rhode Island medical license.
Compensation: $375,000 plus benefits.
